Stories
Voices from the people who founded, lead, and believe in Spirit and Soul. As our programs begin in Liberia, this page will grow with stories from the children, volunteers, and communities we serve.
"Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, dream, and know that they matter."
"My years in pediatrics have given me a deep appreciation for the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of children. Supporting the whole child and family is what Spirit and Soul is about."
"Every person has a unique voice, purpose, and capacity to make a difference. Spirit and Soul helps children see themselves and their potential in a new light."
A first day of School's Out! Faith & Fun
On the first morning, a dozen children arrived early, before the volunteers had finished hanging the paper crafts between the trees. By the end of the week they were leading the songs themselves, and one boy who had never held a paintbrush went home with a dove he had painted and a Bible verse he could read aloud.
Stories like this are why Spirit and Soul exists. Help write the next one.
A volunteer's view
"I expected to teach reading. What I didn't expect was how much the Heart, Mind, Hands, Body rhythm would give the children a sense of safety. They knew what was coming next, and that freed them to be brave with new words."
