Our programs

Simple, interactive, and accessible. Our programs use locally available materials and can be led by trained volunteers in schools, churches, community centers, and other community settings.

Literacy Through Arts and Sports

Our foundational program helps children in underserved communities in Liberia build essential literacy skills while discovering the joy of learning and growing in their faith.

The program focuses on foundational English literacy through engaging, age-appropriate activities that combine reading and language development with art, movement, music, games, and play. Lessons are designed to be simple, interactive, and accessible.

Our goal is not simply to teach children to read. It is to help them develop foundational skills, confidence, creativity, character, and a deeper understanding of God's love for them.

School's Out! Faith & Fun

Growing in faith. Building skills. Having fun. When school is out, the learning doesn't have to stop.

School's Out! Faith & Fun is a Christ-centered summer enrichment program that gives children in underserved communities meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, create, play, and experience the love of God in a joyful and supportive environment.

Inspired by the traditional Vacation Bible School experience, the program combines Bible stories, music, literacy, arts, sports, games, storytelling, and character development. Children learn through hands-on activities, movement, creativity, and play, making learning engaging and accessible for children of different ages and skill levels.

The program is intentionally joyful, culturally responsive, affordable, and adaptable, using locally available and reusable materials whenever possible. Our goal is an experience that communities can embrace, sustain, and ultimately lead themselves.

We want every child to leave School's Out! Faith & Fun knowing:

  • I am loved.
  • I am capable.
  • I can learn.
  • I can grow.
  • I can help others.
  • I have a purpose.

Bring a program to your community

Both programs are built to be led by trained volunteers using materials found locally. If you lead a school, church, or community center in Liberia, or you would like to sponsor a program site, we would love to talk.

Where we work

Spirit and Soul begins its work in Liberia, with a vision to extend to underserved communities around the world. Our team is based in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Our first Literacy Through Arts and Sports sessions begin in early 2027 with partner churches and schools in Montserrado County, near Monrovia. School's Out! Faith & Fun follows in the summer break. Programs are open to children ages 5 to 12 through participating schools and churches, at no cost to families.
